Trials are inevitable. They are part of living and working in a fallen world. Workplace trials cover the spectrum from the simple to the serious, e.g., annoying co-workers, stressful work demands, an unethical supervisor, a job layoff etc. Some trials are more painful than others.

If you wish you can face your next trial alone, but why? As a Christian you have an intimate relationship with God. God already knows all about you and your trial. Paul says in Romans 8:28 NIV, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This verse is God’s life-time guarantee to work His good in every trial you will ever experience. It is a promise from God to you.

When your next trial comes do what God wants you to do in the natural while trusting in Him to accomplish His purposes in the supernatural. Understand Romans 8:28, and believe in its power:

And we know. You “know” God based on what He has already done in your life. God has a track-record in dealing with you, and His part is perfect. God does what He says He will do. The word “know” here means to understand based on personal experience. It is stronger than mere head knowledge.

That in all things God works for the good. God promises to work “good” out of “all things” which include your workplace trials, afflictions and sufferings. You may not foresee how any good can come from your trial, but God guarantees He can bring good out of it – somehow, somewhere, sometime. Think about Calvary. The people on the scene were in despair, but God knew better. God took the worst thing that ever happened, i.e., Christ crucified, turned it into the best thing that ever happened. God can do the same with your trial. It’s a supernatural work, and only God can bring it to fruition. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8.

Of those who love him. This identifies the exclusive recipients of the promise. The identifying mark of a Christian is love for God. “We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19. Your love of God is evidence of your salvation. God favors “those who love him.” Romans 8:28 is a promise to Christians only. It does not apply to those who reject God.

Who have been called according to his purpose. God is sovereign over every aspect of your work-life – the good and the bad. He will work with you and your circumstance to accomplish His good purpose.

Trials are a sure thing. They will never stop as long as you live on this side of heaven. God’s faithfulness is a sure thing also. There is no limit to the good God can bring from your next trial. “The desire of the righteous ends only in good …” Proverbs 11:23.
